My Own Little Piece of the Universe August 4, 2009

Well, before I get into what I want to say, I just wanted to let you know that my recruiter called me today. He got my transcripts and so I should be going to MEPS on Wednesday.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, what I really want to say is that I am slowly moving in with my Omie. She is getting older and I would really like to be here for her if she needs me. I will be here until basic (if I get in, knock on wood.) My moving in here means I get a bedroom all to myself. That’s right, no roommate to share a bedroom with, no sleeping on a mattress on the floor in a computer room, and no more sleeping on a fold-out couch bed. Now, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what my family and friends have done for me, but this is the first time I’ve had my own space in over a year. Even then I was in a dorm of some sort with little space.

I had to go to Arkansas yesterday to take my mom back. She had been in town for a week to help take care of Omie. Well, while I was there I decided to grab some stuff to bring back. I figure if I’m going to be here for several months I might as well make myself comfortable.

For the first time since I left Hot Springs I have a room arranged about the way I want it to be. I don’t even like to count Hot Springs because I didn’t do most of the arranging. I didn’t just dump everything out on the floor like I used to; I actually set it up and I am really happy about that. I always felt agitated when my stuff (like my black light and speakers) was just laying somewhere useless.

I brought my black light, a few of my favorite snow globes, my speakers, my swords, my fountain (which I finally have set up in an acceptable location; always felt so bad that I couldn’t find anywhere to put it; I love it, but just didn’t have any room to put it until now), my Christmas lights (which, admittedly, I don’t exactly know how I’m going to put up), a wireless router (it is Jay’s, but it is smaller and easier to transport than mine) and some other miscellaneous things from Arkansas. I’ve got a bit more stuff to unpack, but at the moment I’ve just got my black light on, my speakers set up, and am chilling listening to some Downtempo. I really wish I could say how great it all feels right now. Omie has no idea that I brought this much stuff, but I figure if I finish unpacking today she’ll be okay with it. The room actually looks quite nice.

I have to go to work tomorrow (thinking about wearing my Marino jersey) so I need to get some sleep. Have to finish this unpacking first. I’ll see what I can do about pictures later (after I get the stuff moved from my dad’s house).
